President of the United States, Donald Trump is making his first official visit to India later this month. Trump will be accompanied by the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump on the two-day trip to New Delhi and Ahmedabad. Reportedly, Trump will address a gathering of about 1.25 people at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad during the Gujarat leg of his visit.
The public show, ‘Kem Cho Modi’ has been organized along the lines of the ‘Howdy, Modi’ event that saw Modi address the Indian diaspora in Houston, United States last year. As per reports, PM Modi invited President Trump to visit India during his U.S. trip in June 2017 in hopes to work out bilateral trade relations with the US.
Both leaders will jointly inaugurate the new Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, which is being touted as the largest stadium in the world. Reportedly, the newly-renovated stadium has overtaken the Melbourne cricket ground and can host various sports such as cricket, football, hockey, basketball, kabaddi, boxing, lawn tennis, athletic track, squash, billiards, badminton, and swimming.
Preparations for the mega-event are on to extend a grand welcome to Trump. Going by the reports, makeshift helipads are being constructed behind the stadium. Roads leading up to the stadium which will be used by the convoys of both Trump and Modi are being prepped. The event will oversee a series of cultural performances by big shot artistes.
Ahead of his visit to India, Trump said that he was promised that millions of people will welcome him on his arrival in Ahmedabad. He said on his visit to the White House as TOI quotes, “He (PM Modi) said we’ll have millions & millions of people. He thinks we’ll have 5-7 million people just from the airport to the new stadium.” Expressing her excitement about her trip, Melania Trump tweeted thanking Modi for invitation.
